Girls’ Afternoon Out is a small group social communication and social skills program designed especially for 3- to 5-year old girls. The focus of the girls’ time together is on development of the distinctive conversational and play skills necessary to building little girl friendships. Using foundational principles of the SCERTS model and Social Thinking, we have built our own unique curriculum designed around developmentally and gender appropriate themes, such as princesses, tea parties, and ponies. Through facilitated play, we will facilitate social cognitive, social communication, and collaborative symbolic play skills. The girls will also discuss thoughts, feelings, and emotional regulation tools to facilitate appropriate behavior across contexts.
Our daily schedule will include structured teaching, facilitated play in semi-structured group time in the classroom, and unstructured facilitated interactions on the playground. Skills developed will include sharing, turn-taking, social conversation with peers, conflict resolution, participation in group activities, emotional regulation tools, and coordinated joint pretend play.
“Right Fit” young ladies are highly verbal, but who continue to demonstrate challenges with social conversations and interactions with peers. Emotional regulation may also be a challenge.
Classes are held at our SCC Clinic, located at 4600 Greenville Ave, Ste. 160, Dallas, TX 75206
